that 后面的是用来修饰chance的

首先for a  long time是一个时间段，表示一个持续性的动作，用have been doing比较好
其次something expected一般是表示被别人期望或者预期的

举个例子
He was expected to be a doctor. 他曾被期望成为一个医生。（可能是他爸妈对他的期望，但是事实呢？可能他做了别的工作）

不行。要么你说 I almost lost the chance which/that had been expected for a long time, 要么 I almost lost the chance (that) I have expected for a long time.
前面一句的that或which不能省略，因为他们在从句中是主语。后面一句的that可以省略，因为他是宾语。

( g- j7 L' M% U  f9 q想要简单的说的话： Having expected the chance for a long time, I almost lost it.

这个有点不好，因为Having expected the chance for a long time这个开头强调时间，它以后一般要说等长时间的一个结果，例如Having expected the chance for a long time, I was ready for it when it came along.
