2024 (6th) “Belt and Road”

and “BRICS” Forum

for Advanced Photonics

The“Belt-and-Road” & “BRICS” Forum for Advanced Photonics was initiated in 2019 by College of Optical Science and Engineering (COSE) of Zhejiang University (ZJU), China. The event aims to bring together experts, scholars, and researchers in the field of photonics to discuss and exchange ideas on the latest advancements in this rapidly evolving domain. The forum will provide a platform for participants to share their cutting-edge research findings, engage in interdisciplinary discussions, and foster collaborations among researchers and practitioners, specifically from "B&R" and "BRICS" countries.

This year the forum will be held in a mixing manner with both onsite and online participants. We are honored to have nine eminent scholars as keynote speakers, who will share their expertise and provide valuable insights into the advancements in photonics.

Biography:

Prof. Hu Huan is an Associate Dean of the Technology Transfer Institute at Zhejiang University and a tenured associate professor at ZJU-UIUC Institute, International Campus of Zhejiang University. He holds a bachelor's and master's degree from Tsinghua University, a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign(UIUC), and completed postdoctoral training at IBM Watson Research Center. His research focuses on advanced nano-manufacturing technology, micro-nano sensing, and lab-on-a-chip technology. He has published a total of 85 peer-reviewed papers in international journals including PNAS and Nature Communications, with 6 cover articles. He has 19 granted US patents and 4 Chinese patents. He has co-authored 4 English books and serves as a council member of the Micro-Nano Devices and Systems Branch of the China Instrument and Control Society, a member of the Youth Committee of the China Micro-Nano Technology Society, a council member of the Micro-Nano Measurement and Instrument Branch and the Zhejiang Optical Society. He has co-founded two nano-manufacturing empowerment techno-logy startups.

胡欢教授,浙江大学技术转移研究院副院长,浙江大学国际校区浙大- UIUC研究院终身副教授。清华大学获得学士和硕士学位,伊利诺伊大学香槟分校获得博士学位,在IBM沃森研究中心从事过博士后工作。他的研究重点是先进纳米制造技术、微纳米传感和芯片实验室技术。在PNAS、Nature Communications等国际期刊发表同行评议论文85篇,其中封面文章6篇。拥有19项美国授权专利和4项中国授权专利。与他人合著4本英文书籍,担任中国仪器与控制学会微纳器件与系统分会理事、中国微纳技术学会青年委员会委员、微纳测量与仪器分会理事、浙江省光学学会理事,并与他人共同创立了两家纳米制造授权技术初创公司。

Biography:

Abdel-Baset M. A. Ibrahim earned his Ph.D. in Nonlinear Optics from the Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in 2009. From 2000 to 2005, he worked as a research officer at Telekom Research and Development (Malaysia) on optical materials and devices. Presently he is an associate professor at the Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM), wherein he leads the Photonics and Materials Research Group. From 2018 to 2020, he was a visiting researcher at the Abu Dhabi University (UAE). He has supervised numerous graduate students, published over 70 papers, edited 2 books, and reviewed extensively for several physics-based journals. His research focuses on quantum and nonlinear optics, waveguide theory, and the optical properties of materials. He is a member of Optica (USA) since 2012.

Abdel-Baset M. A. Ibrahim 于 2009 年获得马来西亚理科大学 (USM) 非线性光学博士学位。2000 年至 2005 年,在马来西亚电信研究与开发部担任研究员,研究光学材料和器件。目前为马来西亚理工大学 (UiTM) 副教授,领导光子学和材料研究小组。2018 年至 2020 年,担任阿布扎比大学 (UAE) 客座研究员。迄今发表了70 多篇论文,编辑了2 本书,为多家物理学期刊撰写了大量评论。他的研究重点是量子和非线性光学、波导理论和材料的光学特性。自 2012 年以来,他一直是 Optica (USA) 的成员。

Biography:

Weibo Gao, born in 1984, received his Bachelor in 2005 from University of Science and Technology of China, and PhD from the same university in 2010 under the supervision of Prof. Jianwei Pan. From 2010 to 2014, he worked as a Postdoc and Marie Curie Fellowship in ETH, Zurich. He joined Nanyang Technological University (NTU) as an assistant Professor in 2014. The same year, he has won National Research foundation fellowship award. From 2019, he serves as tenured professor and provost’s chair professor in Physics in NTU.  Since 2024, he serves as endowed professor in EEE&SPMS in NTU. His current research interest is quantum photonics and condensed matter physics based on solid state systems.  He published on high impact publications including more than 50 Nature/Science series journals and Phys. Rev. Letters. He has won several awards for his creative work, including 2017 Singapore President’s Young Scientist Award (YSA), 2023 NTU Nanyang Award (YSA).

高伟波,1984 年出生,2005 年毕业于中国科学技术大学,2010 年获中国科学技术大学博士学位,指导教授为潘建伟教授。2010 年至 2014 年,他在苏黎世联邦理工学院担任博士后并获居里夫人奖学金。2014 年,他加入南洋理工大学 (NTU) 担任助理教授。同年,他获得国家研究基金会奖学金。自 2019 年起,他担任南洋理工大学物理学终身教授和教务长讲座教授。自 2024 年起,他担任南洋理工大学电子与电气工程与系统物理系特聘教授。他目前的研究兴趣是基于固态系统的量子光子学和凝聚态物理。他在高影响力出版物上发表过50多篇文章,包括《自然/科学》系列期刊和《物理评论快报》等。他凭借其创造性的工作赢得了多个奖项,包括2017年新加坡总统青年科学家奖(YSA)、2023年南洋理工大学奖(YSA)。

Biography:

Bingyao Tan obtained his Ph.D from University of Waterloo, Ontario, Canada and conducted postdoctoral studies at Singapore Eye Research Institute and Nanyang Technological University. His work focuses on ocular imaging using optical coherence tomography and image analysis methods. He has published more than 80 papers in peer-reviewed journals.
谭炳尧于加拿大安大略省滑铁卢大学获得博士学位,并在新加坡眼科研究所和南洋理工大学进行博士后研究。他的工作重点是使用光学相干断层扫描和图像分析方法进行眼部成像。他在同行评审期刊上发表了 80 多篇论文。

Biography:

Mikhail V. Rybin received Ph.D. (2009) and Habilitation (Doctor of Science) (2018) degrees in Physics from the Ioffe Institute (St. Petersburg, Russia). In 2010, he joined the School of Physics and Engineering at ITMO University, where currently he is a professor and head of the QuasiLab group. The current topics of his research include bound states in the continuum, phase change materials, quasicrystals, resonant interaction of light with photonic structures, Fano resonances, all-dielectric metamaterials, photonic crystals, and nanoantennas. He published 175 papers, in journals including Nature, Nature Photonics, Advanced Materials, Nature Communications, Nano Letters, h-index is 26.

Mikhail V. Biography:

Dr. Zhang Gong, ZJU100 Professor, enlisted in a national high-level young scientist program. Dr. Zhang completed his Ph.D. in 2019 at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore, and his postdoctoral work at the National University of Singapore. His work focuses on the photonic chip integration of quantum information technologies. He has published over 19 papers in reputed journals, including Nature Photonics, Light: Science and Applications, and PRX Quantum.

张弓博士,浙江大学百人计划教授,国家级青年人才。张博士于 2019 年在新加坡南洋理工大学获得博士学位,并在新加坡国立大学从事博士后工作。他的工作重点是量子信息技术的光子芯片集成。他在《Nature Photonics》、《Light: Science and Applications》和《PRX Quantum》等知名期刊上发表了 19 篇论文。

Biography:

Dr. Qiaoqiang Gan is a Professor in MSE program (PSE) who joined KAUST in late 2021. He received his PhD degree from Lehigh University in 2010. He is the recipient of Exceptional Young Investigator of University at Buffalo (2016), the Senior Researcher of the Year 2017 of School of Engineering and Applied Science, and SUNY Chancellor's Award for Excellence in Scholarship & Creative Activities 2019. He is the founder of Sunny Clean Water LLC (2017), a high-tech start-up company working on solar water purification technologies. His research publications include over 130 technical papers and 4 patents. He serves as the Editor-in-Chief for IEEE JSTQE, associate editor J. of Photonics for Energy (SPIE) and PhotoniX (Springer), the sub-committee chair of CLEO 2019-2020, the program chair of CLEO 2021 and the General Chair of CLEO 2023.

Biography:

Sergey Makarov has completed his Ph.D from Lebedev Physical Institute of Russian Academy of Sciences and postdoctoral studies from ITMO University. He is the co-director of the International Research Center for Nanophotonics and Metamaterials at Harbing Engineering University in Qingdao. His work is focused on perovskite-based nanophotonics and optoelectronics. He has published more than 150 papers in reputed journals and serves as an editorial board member of Opto-Electronic Advances (IF=14).

Sergey Makarov 拥有俄罗斯科学院列别捷夫物理研究所的博士学位和 ITMO 大学的博士后研究经验。他是青岛哈尔滨工程大学纳米光子学和超材料国际研究中心的联合主任。他的工作重点是基于钙钛矿的纳米光子学和光电子学。他在知名期刊上发表了 150 多篇论文,并担任 Opto-Electronic Advances(影响因子 = 14)的编委。

Biography:

Sergei Firstov received the PhD degree in laser physics from the Fiber Optics Research Center, Russian Academy of Sciences (FORC RAS) in 2009. In 2018, he was awarded a Doctor of Science (DSc) after defending his doctoral thesis. In 2022, he joined the Fiber Lasers and Amplifiers Laboratory of FORC RAS as a branch of Prokhorov General Physics Institute of RAS. He is a chief scientist and Deputy Head of Science of FORC RAS. His research interests include optical properties of active fibers, continuous-wave and pulse fiber lasers, fiber-optic amplifiers and phenomena of interaction of laser radiation with matter. He has published more than 150 papers in reputable journals.

Sergei Firstov于 2009 年获得俄罗斯科学院光纤研究中心 (FORC RAS) 激光物理学博士学位。2018 年获得理学博士学位 ,2022 年加入了 FORC RAS 光纤激光器和放大器实验室,该实验室隶属于俄罗斯科学院普罗霍罗夫普通物理研究所。他是 FORC RAS 的首席科学家和科学副主任。研究兴趣包括有源光纤的光学特性、连续波和脉冲光纤激光器、光纤放大器以及激光辐射与物质相互作用的现象。已经知名期刊上发表了 150 多篇论文。
